Trekking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu
In May 2027, National Tremor Foundation Chair Kitty Reilly and Ian “Frosty” Frost will be trekking the ancient Inca Trail to Machu Picchu to raise awareness and support for people living with neurological tremors
The story behind this challenge is deeply personal. When Kitty’s son was just five years old, he was diagnosed with an essential tremor. At the time, the family had little knowledge of the condition. As Kitty sought to understand the diagnosis, she quickly discovered how limited the available information and research were, particularly for children. Like many families, they found themselves navigating a condition with very little guidance or support.
During this search for help, Kitty came across the National Tremor Foundation and reached out. That initial connection became a turning point. Over time, her involvement with the charity grew, from Children’s Liaison Officer to trustee, and eventually to Chair of the organisation.
The National Tremor Foundation is a small charity, but it provides vital support to people of all ages affected by neurological tremors. For Kitty, the charity’s work goes beyond governance and strategy. It reflects her own lived experience of navigating a tremor diagnosis within her family. Whilst experiences vary widely, Kitty understands how challenging it can be to find clear information, support, and reassurance, particularly in the early stages.
Kitty said: “Our family’s experience motivated my involvement with the NTF and my commitment to their work. By taking on the Machu Picchu trek with my partner, we are raising vital funds, much needed awareness, supporting essential research, and working towards better outcomes for people of all ages living with neurological tremor.”
This trek to Machu Picchu is about raising the profile of the National Tremor Foundation, increasing awareness of neurological tremors, and helping to ensure that no one feels alone or unsupported. Through this challenge, Frosty and Kitty hope to make a tangible difference and extend the reach of the charity’s work.
Frosty will be joining Kitty on the trek, bringing with him a shared sense of adventure and a strong commitment to making a positive impact. Together, they see this challenge as an opportunity to combine physical endurance with purpose, helping to shine a light on neurological tremors and support those affected by them.
