The Shakers examining the metal strawsThe Shakers meet again

Support group, The Salisbury Shakers, met up for another successful meeting on Saturday 3 November. Salisbury Shakers organiser Sheelagh Wurr tells us all about their fantastic day.

Seven people attended our meeting in Salisbury today, with apologies from Mary, Di, Ann and Steve. We shared coffee and cake in St Thomas’ with the Parkinson’s group who were running their own coffee morning there; so there were many people in St Thomas’s and most of them were shaking!

After coffee we departed to our own little room and Sue and Chris showed us their latest ‘gadget’. With the demise of plastic straws, Lakeland has produced a set of six metal straws complete with a bend in the right place and a little cleaner. Very useful for a shaker to carry around.

Discussion turned to CBD oil as Moira wondered whether any of us had tried it. Susan was just voicing the thought that we should forget the oil and just smoke the cannabis, when the door opened and in walked the vicar. He was looking in to see how we were. He told us he must be very naïve because he didn’t know what cannabis smelt like. Susan said, in that case we could all have a smoke at our next meeting and he would never know.

We then had a lovely lunch in the Red Lion where we made plans for our December meeting.

Val had done some research and suggested that we could visit Mompesson House in the Close. They will be putting on a Christmas event where we are invited to explore the ground floor rooms and experience Christmas through the ages. Mince pies and mulled wine will be served in the garden tea-room and the 1950s-inspired shop will be open with a range of gifts for family and friends.

Finding a suitable date proved difficult so it was decided that Sheelagh would suggest these four dates: 7, 8, 9 and 21 December, all at 2pm, and request that members told her which of these they could do. We will then confirm the most popular date.

Members of the group and anybody else who would like to join us, please let Sheelagh know by 25 November which date(s) they can manage, and a decision will be made and circulated. Please contact
