Essential tremor awareness raised at Parliamentary Drop-In
On 2nd September, the National Tremor Foundation (NTF) and the British Society of Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery hosted a Parliamentary Drop-In session to highlight the unmet need in treating essential tremor (ET).
The event gave Members of Parliament the opportunity to hear directly about the challenges faced by people living with ET, and the urgent need to expand access to effective therapies. By raising the profile of ET within Parliament, NTF and its partners aim to secure greater recognition, improved support, and better treatment options for patients.
The success of the session relied on the support of people with ET, their families, and advocates who helped bring this important issue to the attention of decision makers.
NTF Chair Kitty Reilly said: “Essential tremor is often misunderstood and overlooked, yet it has a huge impact on daily life. By bringing this issue into Parliament, we are making sure that the voices of people with essential tremor are finally being heard. This Drop-In is a vital step towards securing better recognition, support, and access to effective treatments for everyone affected.”
The Parliamentary Drop-In was an important step in bringing essential tremor to the attention of policymakers and ensuring that the needs of this community are recognised in future health policy discussions.
