By Phill Alcock, International Nordic Walking Federation Instructor, UK Athletics Licensed Coach (running and walking fitness). In collaboration with Professor Lettie Bishop of Loughborough University.

Phil has been involved in the NTF as guest speaker at our events and now shares details of his new mobility project. Phil welcomes anyone with ET or OT to get involved.

Fit on Foot is a new, free, programme that has been especially adapted for the NTF. Designed by leading academics and experienced Community Coaches, it is especially intended for: -

  1. People who find walking potentially problematic due to balance or mobility issues.
  2. People who “don’t like exercise” Fit on Foot is effective and fun.
  3. The friends and relatives of NTF members.

The programme deals with both Physical Fitness and Mental Fitness. It is unique in its approach and methods. It consists of easy-to-follow written instructions and photos, Zoom meetings and Webinars.

The Mental Health elements are especially valuable for anyone with long term chronic conditions.

You will have access to specialist advice and personalised training plans.

You will also have the opportunity to take part in a Citizen Science research programme aimed at designing activities for essential tremor and orthostatic tremor

Never before has physical activity been so important. In particular it enhances the immune system, increasing your resistance to infection and making vaccination far more effective.

However, balance or mobility issues can inhibit physical activity and even spoil enjoyment of strolls in the countryside. Fit on Foot training helps to alleviate such problems.

An introductory Zoom presentation will be available shortly. For details and joining instructions email Phill at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
