ET Impact Survey Results
Thank you to everyone who took the time to participate in our first Essential Tremor impact survey earlier this month. From the 237 responses, we have been able to gain important insights into the wide reaching effects that Essential Tremor can have on a person’s everyday life.
Thank you to everyone who took the time to participate in our first Essential Tremor impact survey earlier this month. From the 237 responses, we have been able to gain important insights into the wide reaching effects that Essential Tremor can have on a person’s everyday life. These findings will be valuable in helping us to continue to raise awareness of the condition and the need for effective treatment and support.
Some key findings from the survey included:
- 55% of those surveyed said they rarely, if ever, go out to socialise, and only 12% said their tremor did not significantly impact their social life.
- 57% said ET has a negative impact on their mental health.
- In terms of work, almost 20% had to stop work completely, 7% had to change occupation, and 6% had to reduce their hours.
- Many reported that simple everyday tasks such as brushing teeth, or eating, can require support, with 40% of respondents stating they require help from others.
- Despite the major impact that ET has on mental health and daily life, 92% of respondents do not see any other type of specialist beyond their neurologist/GP to support with these wider difficulties stemming from the disease.
We have already been able to use the survey to secure radio segments on Essential Tremor across many UK stations. Last week Jackie Farrell, our NTF support group coordinator, Geoff Sleight and TV medic, Dr Sarah Jarvis participated in interviews with radio presenters from stations across the UK, with a combined reach of nearly 1 MILLION people!!!
Again, thank you for your participation in the survey; your ongoing support helps us to increase awareness and understanding of Essential Tremor.
