Salisbury Shakers May meet-up
Salisbury support group organiser Sheelagh reflects on the Salisbury Shakers May meet-up
Members of the Salisbury Shakers shared experiences
We welcomed a new member, Tim from Frome, who told us about his ‘tremor journey’. His experiences with the medical profession have been, sadly, unhelpful.
Jillian proudly held up her left hand (she is left-handed) to demonstrate that it no longer shook! From being unable even to pick up a pencil, she can now draw a spiral, write and hold a mug of coffee. Her thalamotomy procedure took place just over two weeks ago and is the result of her struggle and perseverance to get treatment for 17 years!
Members reported on various experiences and events since the last meeting.
Sheelagh told everyone about Amy’s new support group, the Welsh Wobblers, which got off to a wonderful start on Friday. Since a couple from our group have had falls recently, we will try to take on board a tip from a member of the new group who suggested a mental ‘risk assessment’ before undertaking something which could cause problems, such as reaching to a high shelf, stooping to pick up litter too near to the kerb, etc.
There was also some discussion about how helpful people are to us in general. We heard several examples.
Our book is progressing well. The text is just about finished and we are now waiting for the illustrations, the dedication page and a ‘foreword’, which we are hoping Rob Mallard might write for us.
We agreed that a good title for the book would be a quote from a piece written by Jill, one of our members: ‘May I help you with that?’
I will send the links provided by last meeting’s physio to everyone again, as some people asked for them and I can’t remember who! Please consider visiting the website and leaving a review because she asked us to.
Our next two meetings will be on June 13th and July 11th. We will have a break in August and resume in September on a date to be arranged with the Playhouse.
