Jackie Farrell who leads West Sussex Shakers support group reflects on their August meet-up.

West Sussex Shakers meetup 20th August 2024

Ten members of West Sussex Shakers met at the Swallows Return, Worthing for our lunchtime meetup 20thAugust. Apologies were given from another seven unable to attend.

Waiting for our food is a good opportunity for sharing news.

We welcomed Jim and his wife from Scotland who were down in West Sussex for holiday. Jim shared with us that his experience has been pretty good getting GP appointments in Scotland compared with down here in England.

Jackie explained to the group the importance of taking part in the Neurological Alliance 2024 Survey. Highlighting the benefits of the survey helped the group understand the importance of taking part. If filling in the online form was too much, the Neurological Alliance also offer the option of completing it by phone or with a paper copy.

Jackie also shared her experiences with the Logitech ‘Link’ vertical mouse and explained how she is in contact with the Logitech Diversity team and had 2 types of vertical mice and one trackball mouse for the group to try. No one was aware of vertical mice so these items proved to be interesting.

Ordering peas for lunch, Bee and husband

Neil from our group reminded us of a poem about “Peas” written by Ogden Nash

“I eat my peas with honey, I’ve done it all my life; It makes the peas taste funny, but it keeps them on the knife.” We wondered if anyone has tried this?

Lynda who has Orthostatic Tremor once again shared information of an app “Tremor Analysis” she uses to measure the frequency of her OT tremor. This created plenty of interest to others keen to download the app to measure their ET tremors. We know Essential tremor, Orthostatic Tremor and Parkinsons have different frequencies so we are keen to see what frequencies the app measures for our ET members!

Worthing Shakers were recently given a donation which has started to be put to good use. Jackie purchased pencil/pen grips and napkin clips for the group. The napkin clips also have an additional use for stabilizing sun hats!
