West Sussex Meet-up Group in June
Jackie Farrell who leads West Sussex Shakers support group reflects on their meetup on their June meet-up.
Sixteen members of West Sussex Shakers met at the Swallows Return, Worthing for our lunchtime meetup 8th June. Apologies were given from another three unable to attend.
Waiting for our food is a good opportunity for sharing news.
We welcomed Annie a new member to the group, along with her husband Bruce. Jackie then shared her experiences with the assistive devices GyroGlove and also Vilim Ball and gave a short demo how each worked.
Jackie explained about her Sutton Shakers member Brenda who had been recommended breathing exercises to help improve and strengthen her voice. This was also of interest to the group in particular those who have voice tremors. Jackie gave a demo of “Humming Bee breath, which is a great yoga breathing exercise and is said to be used by singers. Curiosity led to the group having a try of the exercise which resulted in a fun experience.
Sue mentioned she belonged to the Adur Petanque Club in Lancing and invited our group to join her sometime for a game at the club. There was interest from members who thought this would make a lovely social event. Since our meetup a date has been fixed for August 11th.
Lynda who has Orthostatic Tremor shared information of an app “Tremor Analysis” she uses to measure the frequency of her tremor. This created plenty of interest to others keen to download the app to their phones. We know Essential tremor, Orthostatic Tremor and Parkinsons have different frequencies so we are keen to see what frequencies the app measures for the ET members!
A couple of our members have Dystonia so the question came up how does it differ from Essential Tremor?
This was the first time we had used the Swallows Return venue for our meetup so were not sure how it was going to turn out. We needn’t have worried; the staff had reserved a private area for us and we were well looked after by their team. A very relaxed afternoon with a friendly bunch of likeminded people.
Our next meeting will be a Summer Social event 11th August at Lancing …… More details to follow
