West Sussex Meet-up Group in November
Jackie Farrell who leads West Sussex Shakers support group reflects on their meetup on the 11th November at the Roundstone Pub, East Preston.
12 people attended our meetup, which included Orthostatic Tremor and Essential Tremor attendees. We were delighted to once again be served by Jordan who looked after us really well. He shared with us the good news he had recently become a dad and that the 11th was his first day back at work after a two week break.
While waiting for our food we appreciated Steve H leading a minute’s silence on Armistice Day.
Conversations and banter on various topics including.
1.How to put glasses on without poking the arms in our eyes!
2. Hearing aids, including listening to TV by adjusting sound levels.
3. Air fryers, also chopping veg in food processor is better for some than cutting with knife
4. Cruises and how on certain cruise lines those with mobility challenges are well looked after.
One other topic discussed by a group member, who has found it beneficial, is NHS Social Prescribing. “Social prescribing is a key component of Universal Personalised Care. It is an approach that connects people to activities, groups and services in their community to meet the practical, social and emotional needs that affect their health and wellbeing”
“There are many different models for social prescribing, but most involve a link worker or navigator who works with people to access local sources of support”.
We discussed about a future meet up, perhaps inviting a friend or family member to join us?
As one of our members wrote and I think sums up the meeting:” It’s really heart warming being able to spend time with you all, and it’s just so normalising. It’s nice to not have to worry about what other people are thinking of all the shaking!”
