Jackie Farrell who leads Worthing Shakers support group reflects on their August 2025 meetup.

15 members of Worthing Shakers support group met at the Swallows Return, Worthing on the 15th August. We welcomed new member Linda who attended for the first time.

Our August meetup was slightly different as we also used the session to discuss and try various assistive aids. This proved to be a very popular topic.

Among new items tried was an ‘Autodrop’, a device I use daily for inserting eyedrops. The group were keen to try this as a few members have eye issues that require eyedrops. Essential Tremor patients tend to have difficulty using ordinary eyedroppers.

The iMedic weighted cutlery were of interest as they look similar to standard cutlery although  heavier.

I have recently purchased the ‘Beech Band’, a device developed by Carl Beech for people with Parkinsons. The group were keen to hear about it and see what it was like.  I will be testing it over the coming weeks to see how it might help with Essential Tremor.

The group enjoy meeting at lunchtime and food is available for those who care to eat. The Swallows Return staff are helpful and supportive, which makes for a relaxing and enjoyable afternoon with like-minded people 😊
