Congratulations to our amazing marathon runners!
The NTF would like to thank Curtis Rhodes and Fred Jewitt for running the virtual Virgin London Marathon on Sunday 4 October for the NTF and raising awareness of neurological tremors.
At the 40th London Marathon participants had 23 hours 59 minutes and 59 seconds to complete the 26.2 miles, which they could choose to run, walk or jog.
24 year old Chapel Allerton club runner, Fred Jewitt 24 year old Chapel Allerton club runner, Fred Jewitt has tremor and did his virtual London marathon at Elvington Airfield. Fred said: “"Elvington Airfield was a very mentally challenging course where I completed 6/10 laps. I was happy with that in the circumstances of strong headwind. I finished off the rest of the distance in my local area. Great support from Chapel Allerton Runners and National Tremor Foundation members. I will always remember the day with a lot of pride." Fred’s dad, Phil Jewitt cheered him on and said: "The NTF have helped Fred to learn more about his condition and link up with others. Well done Fred. We're proud of you."
Curtis Rhodes, whose mum has essential tremor, and ran his marathon along the canal This will be the first marathon for runner Curtis Rhodes, whose mum has essential tremor, and ran his marathon from Saltaire along the canal. Curtis said: “ I woke up early to read comments of good luck from friends, family & people at NTF. Friends & family socially distanced along the route with banners for support. When things got a bit tough mum read out comments of support from friends and family to spur me along. I passed lots of other runners taking on the virtual london marathon along the route. It felt like a real community run.” This was the second year that the NTF has been given places at the London Marathon and is the first time the Foundation has had more than one participant.
