Support group organiser Sheelagh Wurr reflects on the Salisbury Shakers first meet-up in 19 months.

The Salisbury Shakers held their first meeting today after nineteen months.  Several ‘regulars’ were unable to make it because of ill health or other commitments, but nine members gathered in St Thomas’s, Salisbury for coffee.

We were delighted to welcome three new members – Caroline from Devizes, Julie from Salisbury and Sarah who lives in Warminster.  After coffee we repaired to our little meeting room where it was quieter, and exchanged news.  Mary and Sheelagh told the group about Gyroglove and described the day they recently spent in Salisbury with the Gyrogear team testing the product which is now almost ready to be officially launched.

Chris told us he is on the waiting list for some focus ultrasound’ treatment which he is hoping to have before Christmas.  We discussed the various ways in which we all ‘self manage’ and one of our new members, Caroline, described some of the treatment and aids she experienced during the forty years she spent living in California.

Our next meeting will be held on Saturday 23rd October; coffee 10.30 in St Thomas’s, then gather in the meeting room at 11.30am.

One of our new members, Julie, wrote a poem for us:

"We are the Salisbury Shakers

"And nothing can break us

"We tremble together

"Delighting in each other’s company

"And sharing endless embarrassing stories

While ploughing through life with style."
