Support Yourself and Support Others event held at Premier Inn (Piccadilly), in Manchester on the 10 June 2023 was a huge success.

Jackie Farrell who hosted the event gave a welcoming speech

National Tremor Foundation Support Groups Coordinator Jackie Farrell  gave a  welcome speech then introduced the guest speakers Karen Hull, neuro physiotherapist and Gavin Thompson from Warrington Disability Partnership.

Jackie Farrell said: “From the start of the event there was a lovely atmosphere and people were soon chatting. It was great to see people who had previously met at the Liverpool Open Day and others who had formed new friendships.”

Karen Hull, Neuro-Physiotherapist, who gave a talk on “Balance”

We would like to thank Karen Hull (neuro physiotherapist) who gave an informative talk on “Balance”. Karen explained how our balance system works and gave some hints and advice on improving our balance including a practical demonstration.

Gavin Thompson from Warrington Disability Partnership

We would also like to thank Gavin Thompson from Warrington Disability Partnership who provide support services and products to aid with independent living.

NTF Young Adults Ambassador Anthony Murphy giving a speech

We would like to thank NTF Young Adults Ambassador Anthony Murphy who gave a wonderful speech sharing his own story of living with ET as a young adult.

Attendees may have arrived as strangers, but left as friends.

After a short break there was time for networking and meeting the guest speakers for any questions, this proved to be very popular with attendees.

Attendees were asked to add their own Coping tips on the display board.

“Assessing Tremor Severity” by  Professor Findlay and Peter Bain

Jackie also asked: how many had been asked to draw a spiral or had seen a specialist? Not everyone had and this led Jackie to explain spirals were used to assess the amplitude of tremors in a patient. Attendees were able to compare their own spirals with those in the book “Assessing Tremor Severity” written by  Professor Findlay and Peter Bain.

Finally special thanks to (L-R):  Lauren Roberts, Anthony Murphy,
Lindsay Wright  for their additional help supporting Jackie Farrell
and attendees throughout the afternoon.

Jackie said: “I would like to thank everyone who attended and made the event a success. A special thank you to the speakers who were approachable, informative and encouraging.”
