Jackie Farrell who leads Sutton Shakers support group reflects on their meetup on the 1st December at Holiday Inn, Sutton.

12 people attended our meetup, we were delighted to once again be looked after by the wonderful staff at Holiday Inn. Interestingly, one of the young staff has hand tremors so he was pleased to learn about Essential Tremor and NTF.

While waiting for our food it was a good opportunity to share tremor news which included.

1. If there were to be an NTF car sticker, what would it say?

2. Gyenno Spoon – One of our group uses this device and finds it useful. Jackie now has one of the devices for the group to try.

One other topic discussed was Sutton Soup: This is a sociable way of raising money for local good causes in the Borough of Sutton.  Four people who need funding for a project that will benefit the Sutton community have 4 minutes each to present their case (pitch) for funds.  Attendees pay a £5 donation on the door (for which they receive a bowl of soup and artisan bread) and vote for the pitch they like best.  The winner keeps all the money taken on the door. With an average attendance of 100 attendees that is a considerable amount for their chosen project.

I’m delighted to announce I have been given one of the four pitches for their meeting on January 18th for funds for the Sutton Shakers project of an Essential Tremor awareness day in March!

Whether Sutton Shakers is the chosen pitch or not it will still be a win-win situation as we’ll have the opportunity to raise awareness of Essential Tremor and our Sutton Shakers group!

As well as our lunchtime meetups, we also discussed about an outing once a year with the possibly of a Thames Cruise in 2024.
