October update on the campaign to improve patient choice for people with essential tremor
As many of you will be aware, over many months now supporters of the NTF have been at the forefront of the on-going campaign to see MRgFUS (MR-Guided Focused Ultrasound) available for patients on the NHS.
Despite the many challenges and obstacles caused by the Covid19 pandemic, NTF’s campaigners have adapted to the circumstances and played a crucial role in contacting their MPs to make the case for better lives for people living with essential tremor.
There have been many milestones to the campaign, with more yet to come! You will be aware that following the previous meeting of NHS England’s Clinical Priorities Advisory Group to prioritise the new commissioning policies they would like to introduce, in September there was a meeting of the Specialised Commissioning Oversight Group or SCOG. The outcomes of this meeting have not been made public as yet, but as soon as we know the outcome we will share this with you and update you on the next steps of the campaign and relevant process of the NHS machine.
In the run up to ‘SCOG’ – with your help and support - we succeeded in making sure a number of MPs and Peers – including our President Lord Fellowes – signed a joint letter to NHS England to express their support for the campaign. Without your help and support this would not have received the level of support it did.
If you would like to find out more about how you can get involved in the campaign and be kept up to date with progress please email Emma Turnbull at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and she will discuss the campaign with you further.
Thank you for your ongoing support to see MRgFUS being available on the NHS and to raise awareness of Essential Tremor with MPs across the country. We will provide further updates when we have more information about the next steps and how you can become further involved!
